At the beginning of December, we reported that Samsung was launching the beta for its One UI 7 interface. According to a leak from X (formerly Twitter), the new interface will be released in the first two weeks of February. In this context, Samsung has just confirmed that its Good Lock feature will be rolled out at the same time.
Good Lock app to be made available worldwide
Good Lock is a collection of apps that can be used to customize operation and the user interface. Samsung itself categorizes the apps into "Make-up" and "Life-up" functions. The former entails apps that are used to customize the One UI interface, such as the Navstar app, which allows users to customize the navigation bar according to their own wishes and to add frequently used functions. Life-up functions, on the other hand, are designed to make everyday use easier. For example, if you receive a lot of messages, you can use Notistar to filter the messages according to certain keywords.
System apps affected by Play Store bug
Placing the app in the Google Play Store is naturally an important step for the distribution of the app, but there is still the problem of certain bugs that Samsung has been complaining about for years. Specifically, when an update for a given app is released, the Google Play store will notify users that the new update is available, but nothing appears in the "Pending downloads" list. To get around this, users have to manually select the app in the Google Play Store and update it there.
The following apps are currently affected (as of January 2, 2025):
- Android Switch
- Android System Intelligence
- Google Partner-Setup
- Google Wi-Fi Provisioner
- Settings Services
- YouTube
The list of affected apps was first noticed by 9to5google. This is not the only problem affecting Samsung currently, as has been made clear by recent complaints about peeling display coatings on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Screen protectors like these may help prevent the problem.
