Thanks to advancements in technology and competition among different companies, 4K TVs have massively come down in price over the last few years. Gone are the days when you had to shell out thousands of dollars just to get a large-screen TV capable of producing beautiful-looking images. You can now get a 4K Mini LED with a respectable 55-inch screen size, a fast 144 Hz refresh rate, and excellent image quality for less than $500.
The TV in question is the TCL QM7 which is now on sale at eBay for only $456 with the coupon code NEWYEAR20. With the code applied at checkout, the TCL QM7 enjoys a whopping $844 discount on the list price.
TCL QM7 Mini LED TV is a superb HDR and gaming performer
Despite being a cost-effective mid-range 4K TV, the TCL QM7 boasts some really impressive features. The TV performs excellently when it comes to displaying content, especially in HDR, and gaming. Based on these qualities, RTINGS gave the TCL QM7 a “Mixed usage” rating of 8.1.
Per RTINGS’ testing, the TCL QM7 packs a high-contrast VA panel with a native contrast of 8,264:1. The contrast shoots up to an amazing 66,900:1 with Local Dimming enabled. Moreover, the TV also boasts a superb HDR and SDR brightness of 1,315 and 1,222 nits (Peak 2% Window), respectively. Combined with a 97% DCI-P3 uv coverage and excellent color volume, the TCL QM7 provides a standout HDR experience.
Similarly, the TCL QM7 also does pretty well in gaming with features like 4K output at 144 Hz and 1080p at 240 Hz. The TV also supports Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync VRR technologies to eliminate screen tearing and provide a smooth gaming experience. Moreover, the TCL QM7 is also pretty snappy when it comes to input lag and response time and supports a wide range of resolutions, all the way from 1080p@60 Hz to 4K@ 144Hz. So, the TV can be used without any issues with the PS5 and the Xbox Series consoles.
Unfortunately, where the TCL QM7 has a lot going for it, the TV also fumbles in some areas. For starters, the VA panel is not a good fit for a wide seating area, as the image quality takes a big hit when viewed from the sides. TCL has also not done a good job with factory calibration. Thankfully, RTINGS has a handy guide to calibrate the TV.
In the end, for folks who want a respectably sized 4K TV with superb picture quality and gaming potential, the TCL QM7 on sale looks like a pretty good fit.
