Reviews for the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE
The Galaxy S24 FE is big, colorful and cheaper than its sister models, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. In some cases, the Samsung phone is on par with flagship devices, but in others, not so much. In our review, we clarify whether Samsung has tweaked the right areas.

If, for some reason, you need a new Samsung phone right now and your carrier is making you a great offer on the S24 FE, then by all means! But if you don’t fit into that category, I don’t see a great reason to choose this phone. The Pixel 8A does most of the same things and is much more wallet-friendly. The S25 series will arrive sooner than later, no doubt, along with Samsung’s typically generous trade-in offers. Save yourself a little cash and go with the Pixel or hold off and get a deal on the S25. But Galaxy fans already know that.

That's all to say: I recommend the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE to anyone who wants a competent, big-screen handset that won't break the bank. In lieu of ergonomics and flashier features, the S24 FE nails the essentials, from day-to-day performance to battery life to camera output. While AI shouldn't be the main reason you buy the S24 FE, the phone is slated to receive seven years of Android OS upgrades, so you can expect more useful software tools to come as companies like Samsung better understand the market and customer needs.

If you're in the market for a brand-new phone but are working within a budget, Samsung's Galaxy S24 FE is a great option. More so than any previous year, the FE inches closer to being a contemporary within the flagship series. While performance leaves a bit more to be desired, the Galaxy S24 FE provides users with a wonderful display to use, a robust camera array and a shockingly great battery life.

Despite its relatively more affordable pricing (Rs 59,999 for 128GB storage and Rs 65,999 for the 256GB storage option) than the regular S24 series smartphones, the Galaxy S24 FE is a well-rounded device, offering an appealing design, excellent software support, and reliable performance, especially in multitasking and thermal efficiency. While its display output may not be the brightest compared to the rivals, the phone still delivers vibrant colours and rich contrast indoors, supported by decently loud stereo speakers. However, it does show lower battery efficiency during gaming and slower charging speeds as compared to similarly-priced options like the Honor 200 Pro and Motorola Edge 50 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is all about compromises. Everything seems to be tweaked for it to sit below the Galaxy S24+. For most users, these differences may not be noticeable, so they would indeed save some money by choosing the FE version (S$1,028) over the S24+ (S$1,528). Of course, these are the launch prices, so things could tilt either way, especially if you can find a good discount for the S24+. Alternatively, the Xiaomi 14T Pro is a solid option (S$999) that beats the Galaxy S24 FE on several counts. Get the Galaxy S24 FE on Shopee, Lazada, and Amazon SG.

The Galaxy S24 FE offers a near-flagship experience in terms of design, size, and functionality. While the differences between it and Samsung’s top models are evident—such as reduced memory, a slightly weaker processor, and less advanced glass protection—the FE is still a solid choice for those looking to save. With a starting price of approximately $600, it’s about $300 cheaper than the equivalent S24 Plus models. However, while the FE is attractive compared to Samsung’s flagship devices, it’s not exactly budget-friendly. Competitors offer strong alternatives under $500 or slightly above, making the FE an option worth considering—but not a clear winner.

We questioned in our initial hands-on (video at the top of this review) if the Galaxy S24 FE was truly a phone for the fans based on some of Samsung’s choices; it turns out the definitive answer was a resounding yes. The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE looks like a flagship, benchmarks almost like a flagship, charges like a flagship, and is $150 cheaper than the most affordable Galaxy S24. So, who could ever possibly reach for Samsung’s flagship over its affordable flagship that offers almost the same value on all fronts? Well, I would — but I don’t think most people should. I wouldn’t expect most people to benefit massively from the small camera changes, overall material upgrades, or the slightly faster updates that Samsung’s flagships get — the S24 FE does enough to hold its ground for most would-be buyers.

The Samsung S24 FE might be the most affordable member of the S24 family, but it does deserve to be part of it. With a starting price of PHP 39,990 for the 8+128GB variant, it is almost half the price of the standard S24. At the time we wrote this review, Samsung also has a promo offering the 8+256GB variant for the price of the 8+128GB variant. And of course, there’s also the Samsung trade-in promo, where you can get up to PHP 24,000 in discount for this phone. The downside of the S24 FE though is that you do have to contend with the cameras not being as great. The screen isn’t as great as an S24 either, but it’s decent. But if you’re on a budget and want an introduction to the Samsung Galaxy S series lineup, the S24 FE will definitely not disappoint.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is an excellent option for those looking for a smartphone with impressive features at an affordable price. The device offers a great camera, high performance, and long battery life, making it versatile for various tasks. The main camera, with a resolution of 50 MP, captures detailed shots even when zoomed in, delivering colors naturally and vividly. The front camera also impresses with its clarity and detail, making the phone suitable for both work and entertainment. The battery provides up to two days of battery life, although it drains faster during intensive use, such as gaming. Additionally, the smartphone does not heat up while charging. The user-friendly interface and AI-based features make the device enjoyable to use. This smartphone is a harmonious combination of performance, camera quality, and affordability, offering both advantages and disadvantages.

The same question from last year’s Galaxy S23 FE remains: is good enough really good enough? Perhaps. You do get Samsung’s suite of nifty AI features, including stuff like Live Translate, but the performance of the Galaxy S24 FE is not as good as our lead phone for the Best High-end Android Phone category, which is the Xiaomi 14. Priced at 'just' S$999 while offering more compelling features like 12GB of RAM, blazing fast 90W wired and 50W wireless charging speeds and Leica-branded cameras that produce excellent photography, it's a tough cookie to beat if you're looking for an overall best recommendation. However, if you’re a Samsung fanboy (nothing wrong with that since they've fine products) or want Samsung’s AI offerings, the Galaxy S24 FE remains one of the most affordable ways to get that in a semi-flagship package.

There's no doubting that the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is a great phone. Assessed in isolation I can wax lyrical about its solid feature set – from the decent screen to ample performance from the Exynos chip here – and the sensible price point. Thing is, with the Galaxy S24 series having sunk in price at the very time of the FE's launch, there's a question mark over whether it really needs to exist – as aren't there enough Galaxy flagships to pick from already? The S24 Plus would be a natural option, for the right price. That may not matter, however, as if you come to find yourself staring in the face of an S24 FE deal then it's a tried-and-tested handset style that's hard to be hugely critical about, save for the zoom camera.

Ever since I knew that I was reviewing the Galaxy S24 FE, I had an idea of what I would write here in the conclusion. I imagined I would berate Samsung for offering an 'OK' phone for a price that is not okay because it is far too expensive. But to be honest, it's not quite like that. So yes, of course, the device is too expensive for my preference with an asking price of $649.99. You don't get an average handset at that price, but a really good one instead. A decent, large display, decent battery, good performance, flagship design, long software support, and the complete AI suite—what's there to complain about? That would be a really great overall package if the Galaxy S24+ didn't have a better one.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE was created with the aim of providing users with a practically flagship smartphone at an affordable price. And it almost succeeded. The smartphone really has almost everything you need for a modern flagship smartphone. A good screen with great colors and 120 Hz, a productive platform, and a versatile set of good quality cameras. To this should be added a glass and metal body with full IP68 protection, as in flagships. Convenient One UI 6.1 shell on the latest Android 14 and loud stereo speakers. The only complaints are the wide bezels around the screen and the heavy weight. But so far, the price is quite high and there are interesting competitors. For example, Galaxy S24, which costs only a few thousand more.

Without a doubt in my mind, this is the best-value phone in Australia right now. With performance rivalling pricier phones and seven years of software updates, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is a great Android handset at an even better price. The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE manages to blend performance, durability and endurance in a relatively affordable package along with the provision of Galaxy AI equal to that used in the top-shelf and pricier Galaxy S24 series. While it has some concessions to cost, namely the use of a less brighter display while packing a slightly thicker and less durable chassis, it is still every bit a potent flagship with a whopping 7 years of promised OS and security updates, a combination of features that the competition would be hard-pressed to match. If you’re after the latest Samsung flagship experience and an affordable means to access the full Galaxy AI experience, the Galaxy S24 FE is an option worthy of consideration though you can alternatively opt for last year’s Galaxy S23+ if you happen to find them in the market.

There’s no denying that the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE might have great specs and flagship features. Besides we didn’t find many issues with this device. It has an impressive display, the best speakers, crisp photos, and a solid combination of software updates. Whereas, the missing autofocus in ultra-wide and selfie lenses isn’t even a major downside either. But, realistically speaking, purchasing Galaxy S24 Plus would be a smart deal since it has almost everything with a Snapdragon chipset. If you want a similar deal, you should consider getting the Xiamoi 14T Pro at a higher price. It has arguably better display, higher brightness, Dolby Vision, fast charging, and a powerful chipset, which makes it an excellent all-rounder phone from Xiaomi. Even after this, if you still want to purchase S24 FE, consider waiting until the price drops. Till then, choose the Galaxy S24 Plus instead.

For the amount of savings you’re getting with the Galaxy S24 FE, it begs the question if you’re overpaying for the Galaxy S24 or S24 Plus. I believe you are given that the S24 FE lines up more to the Galaxy S24 Plus given its size. Functionally, you’re getting the same software and experience with the Galaxy S24 FE — but at $350 less. This is a big improvement for the series, especially when its design, cameras, and display are elevated over its predecessor. The only area where it lags behind is battery life, which is average compared to everything else, but still comes up short against its flagship kin. I’m okay with this shortcoming, especially when it matches (and even exceeds) its sibling in every other area. I would argue the Galaxy S24 FE is one of the best values you’ll find in a phone this year. And this would be the first time I’d claim that for an ‘FE’ phone.

However, is all of this worth its nearly $1,000 price tag? Last year, the S23 FE’s 128GB/8GB version was available for $649.99. A $270 price jump is crazy, and the differences don’t seem worth the cost. Samsung, that’s a lot of money for a non-flagship. The base S24 costs $1,099, so I’d say save your money and just get the upgrade. With the promo code S24FESale, you can get the S24 FE for $200 off, which is worth it if you buy the handset. However, I wouldn’t purchase this handset at full price. If you can wait for a sale, such as the current S24 FE sale, Black Friday, or Boxing Day, the S24 FE might be a good pick. Otherwise, just save a bit extra and grab the base S24. When Samsung hadn’t released an A7* series device in a year, we needed the S24 FE to be more of a bridge between the S series and A series instead of making the Fan Edition an overpriced mid-range-ish S series device.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE maintains the Fan Edition proposition of solid value for a flagship-caliber device, and this is the best one they have created yet. It’s a good device that can easily last you for several years, but whether you should get one or not is dependent on whether you’d rather wait for the new S25 series and if your budget allows you to. As it stands, it’s certainly hard to find something as good as this for this price.

Overall, the device’s readability was very good, especially in indoor conditions and in a shaded lighting environment. It was when the lighting conditions became more challenging that the display showed its limitations. Under sunlight, the device’s screen lacked some brightness and details. Even though the device reached a peak of 1,800 nits, it was not enough to read comfortably. The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE earned the DXOMARK Eye Comfort label. The display’s acceptable level of flicker, well-controlled luminance, color consistency, and effective blue-light filtering make it visually comfortable to use in low light.

Okay, I guess I better wrap up my review of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE now. And for what it’s worth, I’m pretty impressed with it. Samsung has pretty much delivered on that promise of a “flagship smartphone experience at a not-so-flagship price” with this phone. On all the crucial aspects like design, display, performance, battery life, and even the cameras. So if you want a reliably premium smartphone experience under Rs. 1 lakh, then the Galaxy S24 FE is a great choice. Especially since Samsung Nepal is discontinuing the base model of Galaxy S24 which costs just a rupee shy of 1 lakh. Plus, you can also buy it at 0% EMI without a credit card by making a 40% downpayment. So instead of settling with midrange phones, you’ll get a much better experience with the Galaxy S24 FE.

Okay – should you buy it? Honestly, I’d say that it is actually not thaaaaat far off when putting it beside the S24+. Sure, there are some differences that are immediately apparent – like not as thin and the screen bezels being thicker – but other than that, it’s mostly the same thing. At the price of RM3,299 or $709.99 USD for the 256GB version – never buy any phones with 128GB nowadays – and I’ll have to say that it is indeed a bit expensive. So, I suggest you either take advantage of the trade-in program or get it at a discount. The alternative to this phone is the Xiaomi 14T Pro that we have reviewed recently. It is lower in price, but there is no OIS for its telephoto camera and the software is also not as good and is filled with ads.

It’s hard to find fault with the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE. It delivers a wonderful experience in a premium package with seven years of software support. I know people want to compare it to the Google Pixel 9, citing how it offers so much for $150 less, and I get it. The problem is that it goes both ways, and I think the argument for stepping up in price is much stronger based on all the additional features and performance you receive. Even still, the Galaxy S24 FE is an excellent smartphone; just buy it on sale.

Let's keep things simple here: There's no doubt that the S24 FE is a great, very well-rounded device. Honestly, we can't find any glaring issues with it. Does it have the best display in the business, the best speakers around, the most powerful chipset or the crispest cameras? No, definitely not. What it does have is a solid combination of all of these things. It does not disappoint in any particular way. If we had to nitpick, we would have loved to see 12GB of RAM. Still, Samsung has committed to seven years of software support for the FE, so they must be confident that 8GB will be enough. At least one should hope so. Would autofocus on the selfie and ultrawide have been nice? Well, undoubtedly. But neither is a dealbreaker in our book.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is a sleek, durable phone with a large screen, a powerful processor, excellent battery life, and solid connectivity. Moreover, it's capable of smoothly delivering most of the Galaxy AI tricks of more expensive Galaxy S24 models. If anything holds the S24 FE back, it's the camera, which is merely average. The S24 FE is easy to recommend if you're seeking a less costly Samsung phone with Galaxy AI. If you want a midrange Android phone with top-notch cameras and useful AI tools and don't mind a slightly smaller display, the Google Pixel 8a remains our Editors' Choice in this price range.

The Galaxy S24 FE feels like a solid Fan Edition from Samsung, more so than in previous years. The chipset is insanely capable for a phone of this caliber, arguably the best you can get at a price of $649.99. Couple that with the better cooling and larger, more pretty display, and you have yourself one pretty nice gaming phone. Not to mention that you also get the same main camera that comes with the flagship Galaxy S24. What's more, you have a dedicated telephoto camera, which is not common at this price point or even in more premium phones. But, what would truly make the Galaxy S24 FE the perfect mid-range package is if its battery life was a bit better.

As I mentioned at the start of this review, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is a confusing smartphone. Viewed in a bubble, there’s plenty to like. If you want a big phone with a 120Hz display, two-day battery life, and great performance, the S24 FE can seem like a bargain. However, even viewed through this hypothetical lens, you still compromise with cheap hardware, lesser display specs, and mediocre cameras. As I explained above, the S24 FE does not exist in a bubble. Want a big Android phone with excellent performance and battery life? The OnePlus 12R is a much better choice. It outdoes the S24 FE in some key areas and costs $150 less. If you’re dead set on getting a Samsung phone, your money is much better spent on a discounted S24 or S24 Plus — which are very easy to come by these days.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is a great value-option for someone who is looking for a phone that can handle pretty much anything you want to throw at it, but isn't as concerned about having the latest and greatest specs. The Galaxy S24 FE is a solid handset with a nice big screen, loud speakers, decent cameras and is easy to use with one hand. You also get full access to Samsung's Galaxy AI features and a promise of seven years of software and security support that will provide you with new phone features for a considerable amount of time. While you can get more processing power and better photography by opting for the more expensive Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus phones, for most people this phone is an easy recommendation when you just want a nice Samsung phone that doesn't skimp on features to hit a lower price.

Recommending the Galaxy S24 FE or not is a bit tough at this point. You see, it’s a good phone until you see the price. We’re seeing plenty of great phones at the same price or cheaper that offer better camera and software performance, like the OnePlus 12R. If Samsung had kept the Galaxy S24 FE at the Galaxy S23 FE price of $599, this would be a much easier one to recommend, but at $649, it gets up into that lower-end of the flagship range for pricing, which is where phones like OnePlus really thrive. Of course, what Samsung has going for it here is seven years of updates, that larger display, and great battery life here.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is the latest 'Fan Edition' in the series, but what's remarkable about it is that it's really an iPhone 16 killer in disguise. Not only is it much cheaper at $649, but it has features that even rival the standard Galaxy S24 models. It's a big phone packed with bigger features, including a robust triple camera setup, 4,700 mAh battery, Exynos 2400e chip, and it even has many of the same Galaxy AI features we saw in other, more premium Galaxy phones.

I don’t like to be too negative on a phone before I’ve properly had a chance to put it through its paces but my first impression of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is that it’s a somewhat needless addition to the lineup. The price increase pushes it too far into flagship territory to seriously be considered a value-for-money alternative and the cuts that have been made feel half-baked and arbitrary, rather than surgical excisions designed to offer the best value to consumers. 8K video didn’t need to be on this phone and, realistically, nor did the vast majority of the Galaxy AI gimmicks. Looking at the Google Pixel 8a – which starts at £499 – I can’t help but feel that Samsung would have been better off stripping more away from the Galaxy S24 FE and positioning it at a similar price, where it really could have made a splash. As it is, the shadow of the Galaxy S24 is looming large and the S24 FE might struggle to flourish. Of course, it may be that I’ll change my tune when I’ve fully tested it.

There’s plenty to like about the Galaxy S24 FE, and not just if you’re a Samsung fan. The nicer materials, bigger battery and more potent processor help it keep pace with a rapidly improving mid-range market, and bring the firm’s convincing AI features to a more appealing price point. That it slots neatly into Samsung’s wider ecosystem will be more than enough to convince converts to pick one up. Photography hasn’t taken much of a leap from the outgoing handset, though, with processing and editing improvements being the order of the day. Rivals do zoom shots better, plain and simple. Not everyone will appreciate the larger screen size, either. While only minor, it does affect how manageable the phone is for those with smaller hands.

Samsung looks to have doubled down with this year’s Galaxy S24 FE, offering a suite of upgrades to display, performance and battery life that should make it a more tempting prospect for Samsung fans who don’t want to shell out for the flagship Galaxy S24 or S24 Plus. I’ll save my final thoughts for the full review, however, coming very soon.

Reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, the 'Fan Edition' version of Sammy's 2024 flagship phones with a UK price of £649. This 6.7-inch mobile is a similar size to the Plus, but with alternative camera tech. The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is also powered by the Exynos 2400e, but how is the gaming experience, battery life etc? I've been testing the Fan Edition smartphone for a week now so here's my verdict!

With a brilliant screen, big battery, triple cameras, and nearly the same Galaxy AI features as the main S24 lineup, the Galaxy S24 FE is proving it's a cheaper version of Samsung's flagship phone.

Yesterday, in New York City, Samsung unveiled new tablets alongside new FE (Fan Edition) devices, including the Galaxy Tab S10+ and S10 Ultra, the Galaxy S24 FE, and the Galaxy Watch FE LTE. While our very own Ryan Whitwam already dove into the specs, availability, and pricing for these products, we wanted to share our first impressions, additional photos, and a video of our hands-on experience (below).

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE achieved very good results for its class in the DXOMARK Camera tests, thanks to good exposure, nice colors, and accurate white balance across most test conditions when shooting still images and recording video. In addition, the autofocus system performed reliably, delivering well-focused photos and video clips alike. On the downside, our experts observed more intrusive noise and lower levels of detail than on best-in-class devices when the light conditions got dimmer. The Galaxy S24 FE also offered a decent zoom range, from a 13mm equivalent ultra-wide to the 3x optical zoom of the dedicated tele camera module.

In recent years, the Fan Edition has come dangerously close to the normal base model of the S series in terms of both size and price—at the launch of last year's Fan Edition, the S23 was even cheaper than the new Fan Edition at the time, which made the whole point of the model seem questionable to say the least. Is it any better this year at the launch of the Fan Edition? At least in the US pricing for the S24 models has been more stable than in previous generations, with neither the S24 nor the S24+ rivaling the S24 FE MSRP, at least as of publishing time. The only trade-off is that the base mode only offers 128 GB of storage for $650 in 2024, the standard S24 starts at 256 GB which should be the baseline for a flagship model in 2024.
