Samsung Galaxy A17 5G

Samsung Galaxy A17 5G
Samsung Galaxy A17 5G
The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G targets the sub-€200 budget segment with a 90Hz AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh battery, and a 50MP main camera with OIS. Reviews praise its unusually long software and security support window through 2031, while noting modest performance from the Exynos 1330—especially on the 4GB RAM variant.

Pros

+ Six years of updates
+ 90Hz AMOLED display
+ Strong battery life
+ OIS main camera
+ microSD expansion support

Cons

- Sluggish Exynos 1330 performance
- 4GB RAM limits multitasking
- Mono speaker only
- Slow 25W charging
- Minimal upgrades over A16

The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is an entry-level Android phone positioned around the €150–€200 range, focusing on longevity and core features rather than raw speed. It pairs a 6.7-inch 90Hz AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass Victus and an IP54-rated chassis that is thinner and lighter than last year’s model. A 5,000mAh battery and 25W charging support long runtimes, while storage can be expanded via a shared microSD slot. The camera setup is led by a 50MP main sensor with OIS, backed by ultrawide and macro lenses, plus a 13MP selfie camera with 1080p video capture. Across reviews, the biggest compromise is performance: the Exynos 1330 and particularly the 4GB RAM configuration can feel laggy or less future-proof. Its standout advantage is software support, with multi-year OS and security updates promised through 2031, making it a safe pick for basic daily use on a tight budget.

73.3% Can you go wrong with updates until 2031 at a low price? – Samsung Galaxy A17 5G smartphone review | Notebookcheck
In its 5G version, the Galaxy A17 5G aims to once again become the leading phone for entry-level users. Its features include guaranteed security updates until 2031, a 90 Hz AMOLED display, and a slimmer and lighter chassis than last year. But is that enough to stay competitive?
80% Samsung Galaxy A17 Review: The Best $200 Phone You Can Buy
Source: PC Mag English
The Galaxy A17 is a respectable entry-level offering from Samsung. For under $200, you get a phone with a decent build, a good screen, solid battery life, the ability to handle daily tasks, good photo quality, and six years of updates. I wish the phone had a new processor on board, which could help with its performance over time. If you have a Galaxy A16, the overall experience is hardly different, and there is no reason to upgrade to the A17. However, if your existing phone is nearing its end of life and you don't want to overspend, the Samsung Galaxy A17 handles the basics well enough to earn our Editors' Choice award.

77% Samsung Galaxy A17 5G review: A respectable and affordable Android option
Source: Engadget English
If you are hard-capped at $200, the Samsung Galaxy A17 is a surprisingly impressive device. It's got a solid build, decent cameras with a handful of different lenses, respectable battery life and even a built-in microSD card slot for extra storage. You even get six years of OS and security updates, which is significantly longer than almost all of its similarly-priced rivals. And while its performance could be smoother, it's not laggy enough to get truly bothered about on a phone this affordable. For those with wiggle room in their gadget allowance, I would seriously consider looking at a version with 8GB of RAM, which is just $30 more.

60% Samsung Galaxy A17 5G Review: Your Mom's Next Phone
Source: Android Headlines English
Similar to most other budget phones, this all depends on what you need from your phone and what you do with your phone. If you just need a phone to make phone calls, send texts, and check the score of the game, then the Galaxy A17 is a great, affordable option. But if you’re looking for a better camera, battery life, display, and performance, then you’ll want to look elsewhere. Another good option that doesn’t break the bank is going to be the Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A56. More expensive but still typically under $500.

Samsung Galaxy A17 5G vs CMF Phone 2 Pro: Which is the better budget buy?
Source: Tech Advisor English
These are two of the most accomplished budget phones on the market, but they’re surprisingly different. The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is your safe bet, offering a familiar Samsung experience with a solid design and lengthy software support at a sub-£200/$200 (just about) price. You really can’t go wrong. However, the CMF Phone 2 Pro is the more interesting phone by far. It’s also just flat-out better in most respects. Its industrial design is more appealing, its performance is far superior, and its camera system is more advanced than on Samsung’s budget phone. However, it’s not widely available in the US.

56% Samsung Galaxy A17 5G Review: Strong budget phone with one big catch
Source: Phone Arena English
Despite its shortcomings, the Galaxy A17 5G is a great find for shoppers on a tight budget. The recommended starting price is $200, but almost from the launch date, the phone is discounted to an even more palatable $170. That's a great price. Still, you have to understand that this phone definitely feels on the slow side and it will not be a great fit for someone used to quickly switching between apps or for heavier users. Those people would benefit a lot from a faster processor, which you can find on devices like the Galaxy A3X series priced in the $350-$400 tier. What are your alternatives in the $200 price class? For US buyers, there are very few. The Moto G (2026) is probably the closest match at the same $200 starting price and same 128GB of base storage.

60% Samsung Galaxy A17 review: Long-lasting power and fuss-free software experience
Source: The Indian Express English
The Galaxy A17 is a solid budget smartphone for its asking price. Its battery life, display quality and long-term software support make it a great value option if you want a device that can comfortably last you nearly half a decade. However, the Exynos 1330’s middling performance, occasional lags and stutters, and the single speaker setup hold it back. If you need a reliable secondary phone or simply want a device with years of updates and a capable camera, the Galaxy A17 fits the bill. But if performance and a higher refresh rate are priorities, you’re better off considering alternatives like the Realme P4, CMF Phone 2, Infinix GT 30 or Motorola Edge 50 Neo.

Source: Tech Advisor English
Typically, our answer to this question for Samsung’s hugely popular budget Galaxy A phones is a big yes. However, it’s not that straightforward this time. While it’s good to see Samsung keep the same price as two generations ago, there’s been almost no innovation or improvement to this phone compared to the Galaxy A16 5G. In fact, in almost 15 years of reviewing phones, I can’t think of another phone so similar to its predecessor. Samsung has changed the look of the camera module on the back, added OIS to the main camera and made the handset a little thinner and lighter. But when it has the same screen, processor, core camera specs, battery, charging, memory, storage (and I could keep going), this doesn’t feel worthy of an annual refresh.

Samsung Galaxy A17 5G presents a compelling package for those seeking a budget-friendly smartphone without compromising on essential features. Its robust design, vibrant display and versatile camera system, the handset is a solid choice at Rs 18,999 (starting price). While it may not match flagship devices in terms of processing power, it delivers consistent and satisfactory performance for everyday use. For those prioritizing value and functionality, the Galaxy A17 5G is a commendable option.

70% Samsung Galaxy A17 5G Review: Small changes, big impact
Source: Think Digit English
The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G arrives barely a year after the A16, and at first glance, you might struggle to tell them apart. Samsung’s A-series has long been the company’s safety net. The phones are dependable, predictable and designed for people who want a Samsung experience without paying flagship money. The A17 continues that philosophy, but this time, it feels a bit more refined rather than revolutionary. Starting at Rs 18,999 for the base 6GB + 128GB variant and going up to Rs 23,499 for the top 8GB + 256GB model, the Galaxy A17 sits right in the same competitive Rs 20,000 bracket where phones like the CMF Phone 2 Pro and Moto Edge 60 Fusion are fighting tooth and nail for attention. On paper, Samsung hasn’t reinvented the formula, but it has added polish where it matters.

80% Samsung Galaxy A17 review: Reliable, but not without compromise
Source: 91mobiles English
The Galaxy A17 improves on its predecessor with OIS, a bundled charger, and unmatched six years of software support. The handset also offers a sleek design, a bright AMOLED display, and reliable low-light performance. However, at a starting price of Rs 18,999, the dated Exynos 1330 limits performance, battery life is average, and charging is slower than rivals. Be that as it may, the Galaxy A17 isn’t trying to be a performance-focused phone, so you might want to consider alternatives on this front. But for a good display, Samsung’s UI and long-term updates, the A17 is worth considering.

At a price of around NPR 30,000, the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is a solid choice if you prefer a Samsung phone. For performance-focused users who want to play games, alternatives like the Redmi Note 14 or CMF Phone 1 may be better. However, for normal social media use, calls, and good camera quality, the A17 is a reliable option. The 8GB variant offers slightly better performance. The Galaxy A17 5G feels surprisingly premium for a budget phone, with a bright display and solid camera. It handles social media and calls well, and the battery lasts long with One UI making it easy to use. However, performance is not good enough, as it uses the Exynos 1330 chipset from the A14 5G three years ago.

Source: GSM Arena English
The Galaxy A17 5G is meant to be a low-priced phone with a decent design and long software support from Samsung, but at its current pricing, it's far from competitive in its price bracket. You can easily find more powerful smarrtphones with longer battery life, faster charging and brighter displays with HDR support. Perhaps the biggest issue we had with the Galaxy A17 5G is how laggy it is. It's important to note that this is our experience with the 4GB variant. It's possible that the 6GB version has it much better. The poor performance now also raises the question of how Samsung will be able to keep this phone up to date with newer software versions, which will likely be more demanding of the hardware.
