Now that the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is already widely available, a cheaper 4G model is likely to hit the market soon. Kenyan online shop Gadgets Leo has already listed the 4G model, including pictures, details on the features, and price.
The model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage is priced at KSH 22,999 (approx. $177). The design is virtually identical to that of the Galaxy A17 5G. Compared to its direct predecessor, the Galaxy A17 4G apparently has a slightly thinner chin under the display and a pill-shaped camera module, which, just like the 5G model, houses a 50MP main camera, a 5 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a useless 2 MP sensor.
The 13 MP selfie camera is located in a central punch-hole. Disappointingly, Samsung is apparently using the same processor as in the Galaxy A16 4G: the MediaTek Helio G99, a 6 nm ARM chip from 2022, which features two ARM Cortex-A76 performance cores with boost clock speeds of up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores with clock speeds of up to 2.0 GHz.
Samsung installs a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 1,080p+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The casing of the mid-range smartphone is only IP54 certified and therefore protected against water splashes, but not completely waterproof. The 5,000 mAh battery can be charged via USB-C with up to 25 watts. The Galaxy A17 4G will ship with One UI 7 based on Android 17 and will receive six major Android updates and six years of security patches.
