Nothing has officially introduced Nothing OS 4.0, the company's Android 16-based skin for its smartphones. In the new video, the company goes through a handful of changes that the Android 16 update will bring, and among them is the revamped UI across the operating system.
To be specific, Nothing has showcased an interface with comparatively more standardized elements than on the company's Android 15 skin. With this change, the Nothing OS 4.0 is said to offer a more fluid and intuitive experience.
The Quick Settings menu has also received an updated look, featuring cleaner tiles. Nothing OS 4.0 has something that the company calls the "Extra Dark Mode." It's said to extend the signature dark aesthetics of the company's skin to a more refined and unified direction.
There are optimizations for how the OS handles app startup and runtime, which are said to offer better responsiveness and a smoother overall experience throughout the operating system.
Camera-wise, Nothing OS 4.0 has a new camera app. Paired with the "smarter Gallery," it's said to offer a more refined experience. The update also puts a good amount of emphasis on privacy-focused AI, adding a dedicated dashboard that shows when tasks make use of LLMs (Large Language Models). It also seems that the update will bring OpenAI's Whisper integration.
Among the other highlights of Nothing's Android 16 update are a more responsive lock screen, better connectivity, and improved overall stability. Nothing will launch the Open Beta program soon for Nothing OS 4.0, allowing interested users to get an early glimpse of the update.
As for which Nothing phones are compatible, all Nothing's smartphones except the Phone (1) and CMF phones are expected to get the Android 16 update (Phone (3a) curr. $359 on Amazon). Check out the video below to learn more about Nothing OS 4.0.
