Nothing has announced that its uniquely-designed smartphones are headed for an upgrade to the fourth generation of their equally distinctive version of Android - except for one. The brand's inaugural flagship has been cut loose in terms of official software support, although its maker now hints that its fate has yet to be sealed outright.

Nothing OS is about to be "Refined", not to mention "Redefined" soon, according to the latest teaser from the London-based technology brand. It also hints at a little more color than usual in the upcoming v4.0, which is also projected to upgrade devices such as the Phone (3) to Android 16.

That will not apply to those who still rock the Phone (1), however. Nothing CEO Carl Pei has chimed in on X to confirm that the first-gen flagship has received its final major software upgrade, in line with a commitment to support the device for 3 years.

The Phone (1) is still destined for 1 more year of official security patch upgrades - not to mention new plans for the smartphone that Nothing has yet to elaborate on.

The "program" in question will apparently benefit the inaugural brand flagship's earliest adopters, and may be outlined by Nothing itself in the next few days.
