The entire (Apple) world is waiting for one man: When will Zack Nelson finally publish the official iPhone Air durability test and dispel all fears of a Bendgate revival for the thinnest iPhone ever? In the meantime, however, a few other bend test videos are already online, one of which goes far beyond the original in terms of brutality.

Starting today, September 19, 2025, Apple's 17th generation iPhone will be officially available, which Apple claims is the thinnest iPhone ever. Indeed, the 5.6 mm thin iPhone Air appears downright unwieldy in direct comparison to the infamous iPhone 6 from 2014, which is why comparison images like the one above have gone viral on subreddits like MathJokes. The iPhone 6, which was actually significantly thicker at 6.9 mm, was far too flexible, unfortunately, and thus gave rise to the shameful Bendgate affair for Apple.

Waiting for one man

There are indications that Zack Nelson will publish his durability test for the iPhone Air very soon, but other durability videos can already be found online. For example, YouTube channel HowToHacks has published a short bend test video that, fortunately, ends well for Apple.

Viral TikTok video: iPhone Air subject to hammer attack

In comparison, iPhone Air fans will need more nerves for the TikTok video below. While it's much shorter at 18 seconds, the tester doesn't just try to bend the ultra-thin iPhone over the edge of a table, but also attacks it with a hammer. So the internet is definitely out to break the iPhone Air. Without success so far, it seems. One thing is clear: Apple is likely to have anticipated such tests from the community and so has installed titanium in order to reinforce the device, although a crack can be heard at the very end of the video. So, perhaps there will be a sequel?
