What may be the best consumer laptop is available for its lowest price ever.
The M4 MacBook Air 13 is back on sale at Amazon for only US$799, matching its all-time low. While the Air was listed at this price during August (for back-to-school shoppers), it popped back up to about $900 at the beginning of this month. Now it's back down to a dollar under $800.
The M4 MacBook Air 13 features Apple's M4 SoC, which is the latest consumer-grade chip from the Cupertino company. In our review, the M4 handily beat the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V and the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100 found in competing laptops, outscoring the other two in most benchmarks. More impressively, the M4 chip beat its competitors with a lower power draw, pulling roughly half the power as the Core Ultra 7 and Snapdragon X1 Elite on average.
As such, the M4 MacBook Air 13 continues to offer the same strengths the MacBook Air line has become famous for: excellent performance with high efficiency and outstanding battery life.
However, it carries over the downsides of Apple's laptops as well. These include limited I/O (only two Thunderbolt 4 ports), a 60 Hz display, and no upgradeability whatsoever. However, these limitations may be worth the stellar performance and battery life for some consumers, especially at this price.
