The MacBook Pro has been shipping with the same design and mini-LED display since 2021. That could change as early as next year, as the latest information from Apple's supply chain suggests mass production of the tandem OLED panels will begin as early as the second quarter of 2026.

According to the latest information from The Elec, Apple's panel supplier Samsung Display plans to begin mass production of tandem OLED panels for the MacBook Pro in the second quarter of 2026. Samsung is reportedly developing panels with screen sizes of 14 inches and 16 inches, and is currently planning a production volume of two to three million units per year.

Final production targets cannot be determined until the first quarter of 2026, as Apple and Samsung are currently still working on reducing the costs of some components, with adjustments to the manufacturing process potentially affecting the maximum possible production volume. Samsung Display is expected to be able to offer a maximum production volume of around 10 million panels, based on displays with a screen diagonal of 14.3 inches, enabling Samsung to supply competitors such as Dell, Lenovo, and HP in addition to Apple.

According to The Elec, the commercial launch of the first MacBook Pro with an OLED display is not expected before the end of 2026, which is line with previous rumors. This model is also set to get a new design with a thinner chassis and an upgrade to the Apple M6 for the first time since 2021. The MacBook Air with an OLED display is not scheduled to ship until 2029, according to Apple's current schedule, although such long-term timelines are subject to change at any time.
