Apple's next launch event will take place on Tuesday, September 9. Bloomberg has now published a preview of the new products to be expected, providing some new details about the next generation of iPhone and Apple Watch. First and foremost, Apple will introduce the iPhone 17 and the 5.5-millimeter-thin iPhone 17 Air, both of which are expected to feature an Apple A19 ARM chip and a 120 Hz ProMotion display – a significant upgrade from the 60 Hz display of the iPhone 16.
In addition to the revised design with a much larger camera module and the more powerful Apple A19 Pro with a stronger cooling system, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are also expected to receive camera upgrades. Bloomberg specifically mentions a new 48 MP telephoto camera and a camera with a variable aperture, although this will likely be reserved for the main camera. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to receive the biggest selfie camera upgrade yet; previous rumors have suggested a 24 MP sensor. Video quality and battery life are also expected to be significantly improved.
Apple is expected to introduce a range of new accessories for the iPhone 17, including TechWove protective cases, a bumper for the iPhone 17 Air, and a crossbody strap. The iPhone 17 Air will come in light blue, while the iPhone 17 Pro will be offered in orange and dark blue. All models except the cheapest iPhone 17 will receive 12 GB of RAM and at least 256 GB of storage, although some models are expected to have higher prices.
Apple Watch Ultra 3 reportedly getting satellite connectivity
In addition to the iPhone 17 series, Apple is also expected to launch a range of new Apple Watches, including the affordable Apple Watch SE with a slightly larger display and faster processor. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Apple Watch Series 11 are not expected to receive a new processor, but according to Bloomberg, customers can expect a 5G option and satellite connectivity on the Ultra model, as well as a slightly brighter display and new case colors for the Apple Watch Series 11. It is conceivable that the next-generation Apple Watch will be able to detect high blood pressure. Lastly, Apple is expected to announce the AirPods Pro 3 at this event, which is said to feature a significantly smaller charging case and heart rate and skin temperature sensors.
