One can only wonder whether it is particularly wise to unveil a new smartphone on the same day the world's most successful smartphone manufacturer is presenting its annual Apple iPhone 17 series. Nevertheless, Oppo has chosen precisely this date to officially announce the Oppo A6 Pro in China. Some may think that no one in China is interested in the iPhone 17 presentation, but this is simply not the case. The iOS smartphone is also selling extremely well there. But Oppo probably wants to further fuel the competition between the two brands.
In its announcement, the company primarily highlights the exceptional longevity of the battery, which it claims will last up to six years. The manufacturer is thus placing a clear focus on sustainability and durability, an aspect that is rarely a priority in the mid-range segment.
Oppo has opted for a modern design on the A6 Pro, following the current trend of clean edges and flat surfaces. The device has a punch-hole display with the front camera positioned at the top center. The panel itself is flat, reflecting the currently popular flat-edge look. A gold color variant has also been confirmed, adding an elegant accent. Oppo has not yet revealed any information about the back of the device, so the final design will probably only be unveiled at the presentation.
Powered by a MediaTek processor
In terms of hardware, the A6 Pro is clearly positioned in the mid-range. According to Geekbench, it utilizes MediaTek's Dimensity 6300 chipset, manufactured using a 6-nanometer process. It has two ARM Cortex-A76 performance cores, which clock at up to 2.4 GHz. The six ARM Cortex-A55 cores (2.0 GHz) are responsible for energy-efficient operation. The SoC (system on a chip) setup is complemented by an ARM Mali G57 MP2 GPU. Oppo combines the MediaTek processor with 8 GB of RAM and Android 15 as the operating system. Like the predecessor, the Oppo A5 Pro will come with 128 or 256 GB of internal storage.
In initial benchmark tests at Geekbench, the device scored 736 points in single-core and 2,010 points in multi-core, reflecting solid but not outstanding performance. TÜV certification also indicates that Oppo has integrated 80-watt fast charging. However, the specific battery capacity has not yet been disclosed, so only the charging speed has been confirmed.
The launch of the Oppo A6 Pro follows hot on the heels of the Oppo A6 Max, which boasts a significantly more powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, a huge 7,000 mAh battery, and a 6.8-inch 120 Hz OLED display. Features such as IP69 protection and a 50 MP main camera also set new standards for the Max.
Whether the A6 Pro will adopt similar features or differentiate itself more strongly through its "Pro" branding remains to be seen. It is conceivable that Oppo will introduce improvements to the display or camera, or focus on the promised battery life. However, only the chipset and visible design elements have been confirmed so far.
