Previous reports have revealed certain upgrades the iPhone 17 series is expected to arrive with when they launch in September. In addition to those, a new leak has now claimed all four models in the series could be set for a significant camera upgrade as well.
According to analyst Jeff Pu, all iPhone 17 series models—including the all-new iPhone 17 Air—are in line for a selfie camera upgrade. Supposedly, the phones will all come equipped with a 24 MP selfie camera, a tidy upgrade from the 12 MP sensors on current-gen models. It's unknown what the specifications of the new 24 MP sensor are, but the jump to 24 MP indicates 4-in-1 binning for a 6 MP image output.
It's important to note that this isn't exactly breaking news as both Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu already tipped the iPhone 17 series to get 24 MP selfie snappers back in August last year. The latter is said to have reiterated that detail in a new research note, however, lending further credence to the report. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, this new 24 MP selfie camera will be paired with an upgraded 6P lens as well—the iPhone 16 series uses a 5P lens—and should deliver significantly improved imaging performance.
