The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be an ultra-thin smartphone that will replace the ‘Plus’ lineup, at least for the 17 series. Reports about its slimness have suggested that it will be under 6mm around the body, but the latest leaks suggest that the camera bump would add quite a lot of thickness to the iPhone 17 Air. The phone may end up being 9.5mm thick including the camera bump, but the body will maintain the ultra-thin form factor.
Well-known leaker Ice Universe shared on Chinese social media platform Weibo that the iPhone 17 Air will have a camera bump that is 4mm thick. He further stated that the overall thickness of the phone around the camera bump will be 9.5mm. This means the body of the iPhone 17 Air could be just 5.5mm thick. The camera bar is said to house a single camera, and LED flash, and a microphone. The camera may be the same one from the iPhone 16e.
Some reports have claimed that the phone will be 6mm or under 6mm thick, but the new leak suggests an even slimmer form factor. Furthermore, industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also claims that it will be 5.5mm thin. While this would make the iPhone 17 Air one of the slimmest devices Apple makes, it still wouldn’t beat the iPad Pro OLED models that are just 5.1mm and 5.3mm thick.
As for the design of the rest of phone, it is expected to be a standard iPhone design including the Camera Control capacitive button. It will carry the new C1 modem and a USB Type-C port. Since it is said to replace the ‘Plus’ model, the iPhone 17 Air may come with a large 6.7-inch display.
It should be noted that Apple has not shared any information on the rumored iPhone 17 Air and if it will launch alongside the next generation of iPhone models.
