The GPU performance of the Apple A19 Pro powering the new iPhone Air, 17 Pro, and Pro Max reportedly shows a big improvement this year, as per a leaked post. Vadim Yuryev (@VadimYuryev) recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the Geekbench 6 Metal score for the iPhone 17 Pro featuring the A19 Pro chip, giving credit to @jimmyjames_tech for finding it.
Attached in the post is a screenshot showing 45,657 as the Geekbench 6 GPU Metal score. Vadim also compared the performance of the A18 Pro, which scored 32,673, and the iPad M2 chip, which scored 45,862 in the same test.
According to Notebookcheck’s data, the A18 Pro scored 33,074 points, while the M2 chip averaged 44,473 points in the Geekbench 6 GPU benchmark.
We also recently discussed the leaked CPU performance of the A19 and A19 Pro, which you can read about over here. The A19 Pro normally has a six-core GPU, but the version in the iPhone Air is cut down to five GPU cores, the same as the regular A19. It uses an updated GPU architecture, aligning with the Pro lineup (iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max).
If the screenshots are true, then the A19 Pro is shaping up to be a real game changer in terms of GPU performance. And considering that Apple has brought in and is probably going to port over many more AAA games onto its mobile devices, such high performance is obviously going to be very useful.
