Qualcomm is expected to deliver its next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset later this month during its next Snapdragon Summit. Scheduled to start on September 23, Qualcomm may be beaten to the punch by MediaTek a day earlier with its Dimensity 9500 chipset.
Apparently, Qualcomm has a few sub-flagship chipsets in development too. To recap, the company offers the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 to Android OEMs that want a performant chipset without incurring the high costs associated with sourcing a Snapdragon 8 Elite or using last-generation silicon like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. For reference, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 has found a home in devices like the Poco F7 and Nothing Phone (3) (curr. $799 on Amazon).
Earlier this summer, rumours emerged that Qualcomm had developed a new chipset dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 with the part number SM8845. Positioned between the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and Snapdragon 8 Elite, the SM8845 is now rumoured to be one of two new sub-flagship chipsets that Qualcomm has created.
Writing on Weibo, Digital Chat Station reports that the second chipset bears the part number 'SM8735 Pro'. On the face of it, that part number does not provide any indication about what the underlying chipset could be. However, Qualcomm already uses SM8735 as an identifier for the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. As a result, it would seem probable that the SM8735 Pro is an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Unfortunately, it remains unclear when the SM8375 Pro will arrive at this stage or under what name. With that being said, OnePlus could be one of the first OEMs to utilise the new chipset, potentially under its forthcoming 'Turbo' series.
