Baseus has released its new PrimeTrip VD1 Pro dash cam. The company claims it is the first of its kind to offer parking monitoring without needing to be hardwired to a car battery.
The device is powered by the company’s Solar Sync System 2.0, which combines a solar panel with a 380 mAh lithium battery. Baseus says this setup can sustain up to 14 days of parking monitoring, eliminating the need for a hardwire kit, unlike most competing models. When in parking mode, a built-in G-sensor automatically wakes the dash cam when a collision or impact is detected and records 30-second clips from both the front and rear cameras.
For the recording quality, the PrimeTrip VD1 Pro captures footage in 4K resolution using the same Sony IMX335 STARVIS sensor that powers the Rove R2-4K (curr: $97.49 on Amazon). The sensor offers a 170-degree field of view, HDR processing, and night vision support, which should help make license plates and road signs easy to read both during the day and night, according to Baseus. That said, the rear camera records in 1080p with a 120-degree FOV.
Other highlights include real-time GPS tracking, hands-free voice control, a 32 GB microSD card, and a built-in display. The dash cam also comes with a companion app that allows users to review and download clips, adjust settings, and upgrade the firmware. With Wi-Fi 6 support, managing the dash cam through a smartphone should be more responsive.
The Baseus PrimeTrip VD1 Pro dash cam is now available on Amazon for $169.99.
