Hardly any time has passed since Garmin released a major update for its latest flagship smartwatches. Nonetheless, a new beta release called Beta Version 17.30 indicates that fresh stable firmware is on the horizon.

It looks as though Garmin is preparing to deliver a new stable update for its current crop of high-end smartwatches, which now includes the Fenix 8 Pro (curr. $1,199.99 on Amazon). To recap, the company introduced System Software 17.28 almost three weeks ago boasting 114 changes from System Software 15.33 that preceded it.

At the time, Garmin claimed that System Software 17.28 concluded its 17.xx beta period. However, it then rolled out Beta Version 17.29 last week with five changes and updated Sensor Hub firmware. Now, Garmin is offering Beta Version 17.30 to beta testers with the same changelog:

  • Fixed inReach remote issues after connection is lost and regained.
  • Fixed issue with varying altitude at higher altitudes.
  • Fixed potential issue where smart notifications would not pop up after an update.
  • Fixed potential shutdown when editing dive activity data fields.
  • Sensor Hub Version updated to v35.08.
  • Updated Translations.

According to some beta testers, Beta Version 17.30 arrives with Dive and ECG features enabled despite Garmin not stating as much in its forum post. Typically, the company only enables these for updates it plans to transition to its stable software branch. In other words, it seems likely that the release of Beta Version 17.30 will be shortly followed by a new stable update called System Software 17.30 that contains fixes for bugs that were missed in System Software 17.28. Unfortunately, the release date for this stable update remains unknown for now.
