Going with slightly older hardware could net potential MacBook Air buyers a much better laptop.
The top-tier M3 MacBook Air 15 is now on sale for a staggering 35% off over at Amazon. This drops the laptop to only $1099, its lowest-ever price via the retailer.
The M3 MacBook Air 15 on sale features 24 GB of unified memory and a 512 GB SSD, which is the highest spec available on the retailer. At this price, it's $300 cheaper than its M4 counterpart (which is also on sale at Amazon for 13% off, or $200 off).
The M3 MacBook Air 15 received a 92% in our review, pushed primarily by its excellent build quality, highly efficient design, and long battery life (roughly 17 hours in our WiFi v1.3 battery test). The star of the show is the laptop's M3 SoC, which either keeps pace with or outperforms Intel competitors like the Ultra 7 155H and Core i7-1360P in most CPU benchmarks.
The MacBook Air 15 does have some downsides (which have plagued the MacBook Air line for years). These include limited I/O (only two Thunderbolt 3 ports) and a complete lack of upgradeability.
The newer M4 MacBook Air 15 does offer a noticeable bump in power, at least in terms of benchmarks. In our review of the newer Air, it bested its older brother by about 22% and 46% in Cinebench 2024's single- and multi-core benchmarks, respectively. However, overall system performance only improved by 7% (as measured by Crossmark), so potential buyers will have to weigh whether the slight bump in performance is worth a $300 price increase.
The M3 MacBook Air 15 with 24 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage can be purchased at Amazon for $1099.
