Macbook Pro redesign with OLED and Apple M6: Analyst reveals new release window for mega upgrade

Some people are still holding on to their MacBook Pro with the Apple M1 from 2020 or 2021. However, the first major redesign with an OLED display and many other new features, which could actually kick off a bigger upgrade cycle, has apparently been delayed. That’s what the reliable Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman now claims.
After the first Apple silicon-based MacBook Pro hit the market, there haven’t been many reasons to upgrade to the newer versions with the Apple M2, M3, or even the latest MacBook Pro M4, which currently retails for $1,299 on Amazon. That’s what Mark Gurman outlines in his latest "Power On" newsletter from August 10, 2025. While power-hungry users received an annual performance boost, the Apple M1 from 2020 and the Apple M1 Pro from 2021 likely offer more than enough computing power for most users.
The upcoming 2025 MacBook Pro refresh with the Apple M5 chipset is also unlikely to entice many users to upgrade, especially since a larger redesign was previously expected to arrive in 2026. This version supposedly introduces the Apple M6 SoC, an OLED display and a thinner and lighter design, which could be more than enough reasons for many Apple fans to upgrade from their older laptops.
However, this major redesign might have been delayed, as the Bloomberg analyst has now mentioned a new timeline for the all-new MacBook Pro M6. After earlier rumors suggested that the rather small upcoming MacBook Pro refresh with the Apple M5 and the same old 2021 design would be delayed until early 2026, the comprehensive redesign is now also expected to launch a little later. Specifically, Gurman now anticipates a release between late 2026 and early 2027, which is still a long time away. Therefore, Apple users who plan to wait for this big upgrade will have to hang onto their older MacBook Pro a little longer.
