Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max has a hidden upgrade that most people seem to have missed
With the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple flexed its muscles in a way that the company hasn’t done in quite some time. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max feature aluminum unibodies, incorporate vapor chambers to manage the heat output of the beastly A19 Pro, and boast new cameras that seem to have overtaken the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, in between these big upgrades, Apple has also packed a small improvement that a lot of us seem to have overlooked.
Per a user on r/iPhone, the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a “stronger and sharper” LED flash than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Other Redditors have also noticed this change with one user reporting being “blown away by the flashlight and the sound of the speaker”.
On the surface, this is not a change worth talking about. Smartphones no longer have to rely on excessive use of the rear flash to take better photos at night thanks to improved night time photography and dedicated night modes. However, in situations where night mode can’t help, having a better flash can save the day. A good flash is also a nice utility to have since, for many of us, smartphones are the only flashlights we carry.
So, it is good of Apple to have also paid attention to these small things in addition to large updates that attract eyeballs. It is an almost imperceptible change that many people will never notice. But, it is, arguably, a combination of these these tiny things that elevate the experience of using flagship phones over mid-ranger devices.
