Xiaomi is gearing up to release its first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship phones in China, the Xiaomi 17 series. While the launch date has not been officially confirmed yet, it's reportedly set for September 30. The company has, however, already showcased the "Magic Back Screen" of the Pro and Pro Max phones.
For those who missed it, Xiaomi recently showed off some customization features that the secondary display will offer, and now, it has showcased some functionalities of the back display. As the new video shows, the back screen of Xiaomi 17 Pro phones can run widgets like a stopwatch, offer music playback controls, let users answer calls, and show different information like flight details and ride status.
What's more interesting is that the video confirmed that the back screen will let users take selfies through the rear camera, just like the feature that Xiaomi offered with its Mi 11 Ultra. However, it's still unclear whether the secondary display of the Xiaomi 17 Pro series will support running full-screen apps like the external display of flip foldable phones (8/256 GB Motorola Razr 2025 curr. $599.99 on Amazon)
Nonetheless, as Xiaomi hints near the end of the video, users can take advantage of all the back cameras while taking a selfie with the rear screen. Speaking of which, a recent leak has suggested that the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will come with a better Leica camera setup than the Pro model. However, the leaked camera specs indicate that there won't be a noticeable sensor upgrade over the Xiaomi 15 Pro. Check out the video below to see the "Magic Back Screen" in action.
