Xiaomi 17 Pro Max leak reveals one key camera upgrade over the Pro flagship phone

The Xiaomi 17 series is set to launch later in September 2025, and the company has already showcased the redesigned back of the Pro models. A recent leak from Digital Chat Station, a credible Weibo leaker, has also shared the possible camera specs of the 17 Pro, and now the tipster has detailed the camera config of the 17 Pro Max.

As the latest report shares, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will retain the same primary and ultrawide cameras as the non-Max Pro model. For those who missed our previous coverage, Digital Chat Station shared that the upcoming 17 Pro will sport a 50 MP main camera with an f/1.67 aperture and an ultrawide-angle sensor with a 17 mm focal length.

In addition, the Xiaomi 17 Pro is reported to feature a 5x telephoto with an f/3.0 aperture and 115 mm equivalent focal length. As for the Pro Max model, Digital Chat Station says that it will feature an upgraded telephoto sensor with an f/2.6 aperture.

This larger aperture of the telephoto sensor on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will enable better low-light captures than on the Pro model. However, the leaker notes that the 115 mm equivalent focal length remains the same, which can be seen as a downgrade from the telephoto of the Xiaomi 15 Pro (Chinese 12/256 GB curr. $706.16 on TradingShenzhen).

To fill you in, the Xiaomi 15 Pro comes with a telephoto sensor that has a longer equivalent focal length, at 120 mm. Compared to the leaked specs, the predecessor's telephoto camera will be better in terms of capturing portraits and macro shots, as it will be capable of delivering a shallower depth of field.

On the other hand, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max's telephoto with 115 mm equivalent focal length will be better for landscape photography, as it will offer a slightly deeper depth of field. The camera sensor resolutions and sizes of the ultrawide and telephoto are still under wraps, but these additional details, alongside the sensor sizes, should emerge soon.
