The action camera market has moved on in the two months since GoPro first teased the Max 2. To recap, pictures of the true successor to 2019's Max first appeared last summer. For some reason, GoPro waited until this July to indicate that the Max 2 was earmarked for release, having introduced the head scratching Max (2025) five months earlier (curr. $249 on Amazon).
Since then, DJI has released the Osmo 360 as a direct GoPro Max and Insta360 X5 competitor. Meanwhile, Insta360 has started offering the smaller Go Ultra, which will swiftly be followed by the Osmo Nano next week on September 23 at 12:00 UTC. Now, GoPro has confirmed that it has products scheduled for the same, albeit an hour later than DJI at 13:00 UTC.
Surprisingly, GoPro actually has two cameras prepared for next Tuesday, not one. From the short clip below, the larger of the two appears to be the Max 2, which is anticipated to capture 8K and 360° videos with replaceable lenses, unlike DJI's Osmo 360. For the time being, GoPro is keeping quiet about the second action camera teased. However, a leak may have revealed the contents of the company's September announcement ahead of time, full details of which we have covered separately.
