Earlier this month, rumours emerged that DJI would be introducing its next action camera before November rolls around. In summary, The New Camera alleged that the company was working towards scheduling an October 24 launch event for the Osmo Action 6. Unfortunately, it seems these rumours were wide of the mark.
Nonetheless, Igor Bogdanov has now posted the first apparent promotional photo showing the Osmo Action 6 in a degree of detail. For context, dozens of images surfaced on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in June. However, Bogdanov's new leak suggests that the FCC's images were of a prototype model.
For instance, the wide black bar seen in the FCC's images has made way for 'Action' branding and two other elements next to it. At this stage, we suspect that the aperture next to this branding is for a microphone. Meanwhile, the element next to that is possibly a small LED fill light or a subject tracking sensor of some kind.
Bogdanov's leaked image may have revealed a few camera hardware details that have not emerged yet. For example, one can infer from the inscriptions surrounding the camera that the Osmo Action 6 has a 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor, which would be a notable upgrade over the 1/1.3-inch equivalent inside the Osmo Action 5 Pro (curr. $349 on Amazon). Moreover, it looks like the Osmo Action 6 will drop to a 135° field of view (FoV) but with an f/2.0 or f/4.0 variable aperture. Ultimately, we would recommend reserving judgement on these specifications until more information surfaces.
