The Insta360 X4 Air is the company’s latest 8K 360° action camera that comes with a compact and lightweight form factor. Advertised as the brand’s lightest-ever action camera, the Insta360 X4 Air features dual 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensors and a 2,010 mAh battery, which is said to offer 100 minutes of runtime. On top of that, the action camera is compatible with most X5 accessories.

Earlier this year, Insta360 introduced the latest X5 action camera and later followed with the X5 Satin White Limited Edition variant, which we reviewed last month. Now, the action camera manufacturer Insta360 has launched a new 360° action camera in its X-series, the Insta360 X4 Air.

The company has advertised the X4 Air as the lightest-ever 8K 360° action camera in the brand’s roster. Dimension-wise, it measures 46 x 113.8 x 37 mm (1.81 x 4.48 x 1.45 inches) and weighs just 165 grams (0.36 lbs), which is almost equal to the smartphone's weight. By contrast, the original X4 has the same dimensions, but it’s slightly heavier than the X4 Air, weighing in at 203 grams (0.44 lbs).

Insta360 has incorporated dual 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensors into the X4 Air, which further helps to capture footage with better detail and more vivid colors. Like the X5, the action camera also ships with Insta360’s intelligent exposure algorithm, AdaptiveTone. Speaking of imaging capabilities, the CMOS sensor outputs at 29 MP with an f/1.95 aperture and a 6.4 mm equivalent focal length. It can capture 360° videos at up to 8K 30 fps.

Despite boasting a compact form factor, Insta360 has managed to squeeze in a 2,010 mAh battery into the X4 Air, and the brand claims that it offers up to 100 minutes of runtime when recording footage at 6K 24 fps. While shooting at 8K 30 fps, users can expect a runtime of around 88 minutes. Interestingly, like the X5, the latest X4 Air also supports user-replaceable lenses.

On the positive side, it does offer all video modes from the flagship X5 action camera, including 360° video, active HDR, InstaFrame Mode, timelapse, loop recording, road mode, and more. Furthermore, it’s equipped with Insta360’s FlowState stabilization and 360° Horizon Lock, which handles image stabilization-related things. Users can easily auto-edit 360° footage, export videos, and edit images via the Insta360 app. Unlike the X4, the Insta360 X4 Air is compatible with most X5 accessories. Moreover, the action camera is rated at 49 ft (15 m) and supports gesture controls.

Available in graphite black and arctic white, the Insta360 X4 Air standard bundle retails for $399.99/€399.99. There’s also a starter bundle, including a 114 cm invisible selfie stick, lens cap, and extra battery, costing $439.99/€429.99. Buyers can now purchase the action camera directly from Insta360’s official website and Amazon.
