The world of 360-degree action cameras is heating up. To recap, DJI brought its first attempt to market as the Osmo 360 a week ago. In response, Insta360 refreshed the X5 with a new limited edition. Not to be deterred, DJI then shipped major new firmware and app updates for the Osmo 360 that introduced several new features.
Meanwhile, GoPro's next alternative is still waiting in the wings. Although GoPro first teased the Max 2 over a month ago, it has still not revealed an official launch date yet. Instead, influencers indicate that a release could be imminent. Based on a recent teaser, it seems that GoPro was waiting for DJI to get the Osmo 360 out the door before launching the GoPro Max 2.
As we discussed a few days ago, GoPro suggested that the Max 2 would surpass the Osmo 360 when it comes to supporting replaceable lenses. According to Igor Bogdabov, GoPro may have finally resolved overheating problems that have affected its recent action cameras. If patent images are indicative of retail units, then the Max 2 contains two separate heat sinks. Seemingly, GoPro has integrated a dedicated cooling solution for the camera's sensor, while the exterior actually serves to dissipate heat as a leak from over a year ago suggested.
