Almost a month has now passed since GoPro teased the release of its next Max-branded 360-degree action camera. As we discussed at the time, the official social media post came as a surprise considering the release of the Max 2025 less than six months ago (curr. $249 on Amazon). Stranger still, GoPro has not offered any details about the Max 2 since.
As it turns out, someone is already selling a GoPro Max 2 prototype on a Chinese marketplace. Incidentally, the design shown matches that presented by a leak that surfaced over a year ago. The new leak provides a look at the camera's internals, as well as its dual fish-eye lenses. Side-mounted USB Type-C and MicroSD card ports are visible too, as is the camera's removable battery.
Moreover, GoPro's Folding Fingers mounting system will return, which is present on the company's other recent action cameras like the Hero 13 Black. At this stage, no specifications concerning the GoPro Max 2 have emerged yet, nor has launch pricing. According to Jasper Ellens, both the Max 2 and DJI Osmo 360 will leave the Insta360 X5 'in the dust' when it comes to image quality. Based on previous years, GoPro will release the Max 2 this September.
