GoPro has finally updated its 360-degree action camera, over five years after its initial release. For context, the Max (2025) also arrives roughly five months after GoPro introduced the Hero and Hero 13 Black (curr. $388.95 on Amazon). While the Hero and Hero 13 Black arrived to some fanfare, GoPro announced the Max (2025) alongside a suite of new 360-degree editing tools within its Quick app.
Arguably, the lack of a dedicated release is a sign of what to expect from the Max (2025) and how it differs from its predecessor. According to GoPro, the newer model features a 22.5% larger battery with an advertised 1,960 mAh capacity, compared to the 1,600 mAh equivalent in the original Max. The Max (2025) adopts a 1/4-inch thread too for support with conventional gimbals, selfie sticks and tripods.
As far as we can tell, those are the only hardware upgrades that exist. GoPro has thown in some new software features like AI object tracking and 'CameraFX', the latter of which GoPro describes as being able to create backflips, barrel rolls and other 'dynamic movements' on the fly. The new GoPro Max comes with a lower starting price, though. For reference, GoPro charged $499.99 for the Max upon release. By contrast, the new Max (2025) is available to order now for $349.
