The successor to the Insta360 X4 (curr. $424.99 on Amazon) is now here after being the subject of various leaks in the last few days. As expected, the Insta360 X5 features a revised design that has allowed Insta360 to install a larger battery and an upgraded camera sensor.
On the one hand, Insta360 has included a 1/1.28-inch sensor this time around rather than the 1/2-inch equivalent used in the Insta360 X4. In other words, the Insta360 X5 contains a 144% larger optical format than its predecessor, which should be of particular use at night or in low-light conditions. Meanwhile, a new image processor promises to provide superior image performance.
Allegedly, this processor allows the Insta360 X5 to record footage in 11K, which it then downscales to 8K and 30 FPS to maximise fine details. With that being said, the Insta360 X5 can only record stabilised HDR videos at 5.7K/60 FPS. The action camera boasts new software features like 'PureVideo' though, which Insta360 claims will minimise image noise and improve dynamic range.
On the other hand, the Insta360 X5 utilises a 2,400 mAh battery that is officially rated for up to 185 minutes of runtime when recording footage at 5.7K. Thankfully, Insta360's new action camera finally supports interchangeble lenses, should these break for whatever reason. The Insta360 X5 will be available from today for $549.99 or $659.99 as part of Insta360's 'Essentials Bundle'. Please see Insta360's website for more details.
