In the last few years, Insta360 has arguably been the only company to take 360-degree action cameras seriously. Initially, GoPro dominated the market with the Max, which it then let wither while it continually upgraded its Hero range with new models. By contrast, Insta360 has released a new 360-degree camera more or less annually, culminating in last year's Insta360 X4 (curr. $424.99 on Amazon).
Recently, there have been suggestions that DJI and GoPro would soon be challenging the Insta360 X4 with alternatives of their own. As it stands, the DJI Osmo 360 appears to be a way off from being released. By contrast, GoPro's latest 360-degree action camera is a minor refresh of the original Max at best.

Now, it seems that Insta360 will beat DJI to introducing a new 360-degree action camera. Information is thin on the ground for now, with Igor Bogdanov having only showcased two promotional images so far. Nonetheless, it is clear that the Insta360 X5 will line up with a redesigned exterior compared to its predecessor.
Moreover, it looks as though Insta360 has added a speaker or an improved microphone, judging from the grille positioned beneath the device's camera lens and its Insta360 X5 branding. A closer look at the image below reveals that the Insta360 X5 will feature a larger battery than its predecessor. Specifically, the former will contain a 2,400 mAh removable battery for a 4.8% improvement over the 2,290 mAh battery inside the Insta360 X4. If a teaser posted earlier today is anything to go by, Insta360 will release the X5 globally on April 22.
