It turns out that DJI is not releasing the Osmo 360 today, after all, despite a last-minute leak suggesting otherwise. As we discussed earlier this week, there were reports that DJI would be launching the Osmo 360 today in some capacity. While that has not come to pass, the company has finally confirmed the action camera's official release date.
Surprisingly, the Osmo 360 will not be arriving on July 29 as other leaks claimed. Instead, DJI has confirmed that the Insta360 X5 challenger will debut on July 31 during an 'All in One' launch event scheduled for 12:00 UTC. Presumably, DJI will begin selling the Osmo 360 shortly thereafter, too.
In the meantime, YouTuber Benett Graezer has been spotted posting an Osmo 360 review video ahead of time. Sponsored by DJI, the YouTuber directly compares the company's first 360-degree action camera with the Insta360 X5 (curr. $549 on Amazon) rather than evaluating it on its own merits. Setting DJI's marketing tactics aside, Graezer sheds more light on the Osmo 360's hardware than recent leaks.
For example, the Osmo 360 is said to feature a square 1/1.1-inch sensor with a 4,000-pixel edge length. According to Graezer, this sensor provides image quality equivalent to a 1-inch sensor though by providing the same usuable area. At any rate, the Osmo 360 can also shoot in up to 120 MP and 10-bit D-Log M with 128 GB of onboard storage. Unfortunately, the Osmo 360 lacks replaceable lenses.
