The Insta360 X5 is not yet a year old, having replaced the Insta360 X4 in April. Nonetheless, the company has already refreshed the former with a Satin White Limited Edition model, which we reviewed last month. Now, it seems that Insta360 is preparing to return to its X series with a curious release.
Officially, the company has only confirmed a few details about the device waiting in the wings. For instance, Insta360 is willing to share at this stage that its next action camera will output at 8K, just like the Insta360 X4 and Insta360 X5 before it (curr. $549 on Amazon). Additionally, the unnamed camera will launch worldwide on October 28, with Canadian and US releases to follow afterwards.
Also, the company has provided a small look at the top of the camera as can be seen in the teaser below. Meanwhile, a Redditor has exposed that the camera in question is the Insta360 X4 Air, which tallies with the company's marketing imagery of the camera floating away on balloons. Carrying the same 'Pack light, shoot 8 K' tagline as Insta360's official teaser, the leaked image highlights that the Insta360 X4 Air has a broadly similar design to previous models but with a simplified bottom button layout.
According to leaker billbil-kun, the Insta360 X4 Air is set to launch for €399.99 in the Eurozone with an optional Starter Pack that adds more accessories priced at €429.99. Typically, Insta360's action cameras cost a bit less in the US. Thus, a price closer $350 seems more likely at this stage. Regardless, the same leaker reports that the Insta360 X4 Air has a 1/1.8-inch camera to surpass the existing Insta360 X4 and the following other hardware:
