Samsung has seemingly set a trend with the Galaxy S25 Edge, which launched in May with a 5.8 mm thick housing. With Apple having now surpassed Samsung with the 5.6 mm thick iPhone Air, it now seems Huawei is about to have a go with an Air-branded smartphone of its own. Incidentally, Motorola has begun teasing the comparable Edge 70 too, full details of which we have covered separately.
For the time being, Huawei has not publicly confirmed the existence of the so-called Mate 70 Air. Instead, China Telecom has published several images of the rumoured smartphone and a few specifications to boot. Filed with the model number SUP-AL90, the Mate 70 Air is said to feature 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, just like the Galaxy S25 Edge before it (curr. $689 on Amazon).
The Mate 70 Air appears to feature three rear-facing cameras though, as well as a pair of front-facing cameras that may support 3D facial recognition. Additionally, China Telecom indicates that the device contains a 6.9-inch display with a 1,920 x 1,200-pixel native output, although the latter detail seems incorrect given the smartphone's aspect ratio. Overall, the Mate 70 Air follows the design language of the Mate 70 but apparently with a thinner design. A release date remains unknown for now.
