Apple unveiled the iPhone Air alongside its iPhone 17 series in September but the hype around the slim and light smartphone quickly died. Numerous reports pointed out that the phone wasn’t selling well and there was a possibility of it being discontinued. Now, it looks like the sales were just enough for Apple to invest in an iPhone Air 2 as well as an iPhone Air 3.
Industry analyst Max Weinbach posted a spec comparison by JP Morgan for upcoming iPhone models and it lists an iPhone Air 2 and an iPhone Air 3. Weinbach points out that JP Morgan and other such banks are “very good” at getting this kind of information from the supply chain. This suggests the Apple supply chain is preparing for the iPhone Air 2 and Air 3, or whatever they end up being called, despite sloppy sales for the iPhone Air.
Per the image, the iPhone Air 2 is scheduled for the second half of 2026 while the iPhone Air 3 is slated for second half of 2027. As for the specs, the iPhone Air 2 or iPhone 18 Air is said to feature a 24 MP selfie camera, an upgrade over the iPhone Air’s front facing shooter. The same will be true for the iPhone Air 3 or iPhone 19 Air, as the spec chart calls it. Furthermore, the image also mentions the foldable iPhones scheduled for the same timelines. These will apparently come with a 24 MP selfie camera on the cover display and an under display 24 MP selfie camera on the larger, unfolded display.
There has been confusion about the slim and light smartphone focus that the big brands have gone towards. It was recently reported that the iPhone Air may be discontinued just like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge. However, for the latter, more recent reports suggest that a slim and light Galaxy S26 phone may still be on the cards. It could be that the giants are giving this form factor one more shot, with it being the final test for market desire.
