A new report suggests that Samsung is making major changes to its Galaxy lineup ahead of the S26 launch. Internal discussions reportedly point to a quiet restructuring of the company’s premium smartphone portfolio.

Samsung may be winding down its ultra-slim smartphone experiment. According to details shared by leaker @Jukanlosreve on X, citing NewsPim, the company has internally notified employees that it will discontinue the Galaxy Edge lineup after disappointing market performance.

The report claims that the Galaxy S26 Edge has already been scrapped ahead of next year’s Galaxy S26 series launch event. Once the existing Galaxy S25 Edge stock is sold out, no further production is expected. A Samsung official quoted by NewsPim stated that the slim series “is practically gone,” noting that its return “seems unlikely.”

The Galaxy S25 Edge debuted on May 23, 2025, as Samsung’s thinnest flagship smartphone. Despite the engineering focus on a compact, ultra-slim design, the phone’s 3,900 mAh battery and pricing reportedly hindered consumer adoption. The model launched at around $1,382 for the 256 GB variant and $1,515 for 512 GB, making it more expensive than the base Galaxy S25 but cheaper than the S25 Ultra.

According to figures from Hana Securities referenced in the report, the Galaxy S25 Edge sold about 190,000 units in its first month, compared with 1.17 million for the S25, 840,000 for the S25 Plus, and 2.55 million for the S25 Ultra. By August, cumulative sales reached 1.31 million units—significantly lower than the 8.28 million S25 units sold.

Initially, Samsung had positioned the Edge as a successor to the Plus model within the Galaxy S26 lineup, identifying slim smartphones as a possible next-generation trend. However, after reviewing market feedback, the company reportedly decided to bring back the Plus model—which was earlier rumoured to have been discontinued—and phase out the Edge line altogether.

The move is said to have created internal scheduling pressure ahead of the Galaxy S26 Unpacked event, which is expected in January 2026. NewsPim notes that the upcoming S26 series will now comprise three models—the Galaxy S26 (Pro), S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra.

Industry observers quoted in the report believe the decision reflects shifting consumer priorities. “The Edge line wasn’t created out of real necessity for a slim model,” one mobile industry source said, suggesting that battery capacity and performance remain more important to users than achieving thinner designs.

The report also adds that Samsung’s updated lineup may influence its chipset distribution strategy. The Galaxy S26 (Pro) and S26 Plus models sold in Korea and Europe are expected to feature the Exynos 2600 SoC, while Snapdragon-powered versions will continue to serve markets such as North America, China, and Japan.
