Why the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 would have been better as a Galaxy Tab S20

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 proves to be extremely bright in our review. Compared to the Galaxy Tab S9 and Apple iPad Air, the little brother of the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, with its OLED screen, is a class above its compact tablet competitors. However, it also not without criticism.

In our review, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 proves to be a true premium tablet, featuring a high-quality and waterproof aluminum unibody chassis. Sporting an 11-inch OLED display, the Galaxy Tab impresses with a high peak brightness of over 1,600 cd/m², corresponding to the brightness level advertised by Samsung.

In our measurements with a spectrophotometer using an APL18 pattern, we registered a strong luminance of 1,575 cd/m². When playing an HDR video with the Galaxy Tab S11, we get 1,648 cd/m². The OLED display also impresses with very fast response times, which will be particularly pleasing to gamers.

OLED screen has room for improvement in color reproduction

Our analysis of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11's color reproduction using a photospectrometer and CalMAN software shows that Samsung's premium tablet exhibits increased DeltaE deviations from the sRGB color space. This means that the color accuracy is not optimally calibrated, and colors are reproduced less accurately than, for example, on a Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro. Red and green tones in particular stand out negatively here.

There are no major criticisms when it comes to the choice of chipset, as the Dimensity 9400+ is a modern SoC that provides high performance. There are, however, certain thermal problems, especially when compared to the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. In our tests, the Galaxy Tab S11 experiences significant throttling under load at times. The benchmark scores are also worse than those of the Ultra model.

Battery life is better on other Android tablets

The battery life of the Galaxy Tab S11 is somewhat disappointing. In our practical measurement with a brightness of 150 cd/m², the Galaxy Tab S11 lagged behind the competition. In the Wi-Fi test, the Galaxy Tab S9 achieved 9 hours, while the Galaxy Tab S11 now reaches 11 hours.

Regarding battery life, it certainly would have been advantageous if Samsung had made a big version leap, similar to its smartphones, and continued its tablet series with a Galaxy Tab S20. With a battery life of 20 hours, the compact Samsung tablet would at least have been more competitive in the Android sector.
