It has been reported that Samsung is planning on going back to its original naming convention for the Galaxy S26 series. The information comes from a known leaker but does not cite any sources.

From what seemed like an overhaul for the Galaxy S26 series, it looks like Samsung is backtracking on its decisions. The company was expected to rebrand the base Galaxy S26 and completely eliminate the Plus model. However, according to latest information from a known leaker, Samsung is going back to its original naming convention and lineup for the upcoming flagship series.

For context, it was reported back in July that the Korean giant is looking to shake things up with the Galaxy S26 series. It was said that the Galaxy S26 Edge will replace the Galaxy S26 Plus and that the Galaxy S26 will be rebranded to the Galaxy S26 Pro. This meant that there will not be a Galaxy S26 or a Galaxy S26 Plus in the lineup, and that would be the case for future generations as well.

Now, tipster Yogesh Brar has posted on X that Samsung is going back to its original naming convention. No source for the information was provided. This means the next flagship series will include the Galaxy S26, the Galaxy S26 Plus, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The leaker also mentions that the company has given up on thin and light phones for now, so there may not be a Galaxy S26 Edge at all.

It is likely that all the leaks that we’ve seen so far, pertaining to the Galaxy S26 Pro, will be true for the Galaxy S26. The leaks for the Galaxy S26 Edge, however, now seem questionable. Notably, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Samsung abandoning the Edge model. Earlier this month, Korean outlet The Elec reported that development of the Galaxy S26 Plus was being resumed suggesting the model is not going anywhere. Additionally, another known leaker had shared last week that Galaxy S26 Edge has been cancelled due to underwhelming sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge (buy on Amazon for 37% off).

It seems like the consumers have shown that they don’t want thin and light phones. Apple’s iPhone Air seems to be facing the same dilemma as reports of it being cancelled are also doing the rounds.
