A series of leaks and rumors have been surfacing about the Galaxy S26 Ultra in the past couple weeks pertaining to the design, SoC, and cameras. Another leak now suggests that the selfie camera will get an upgrade as well, thought it may not be the most visually appealing design change. Of course, Samsung has not shared any information about the next generation Galaxy S series phones so take this with a pinch of salt.
As posted by known leaker Ice Universe on X, the selfie camera on the Galaxy S26 Ultra will be much larger than its predecessor. While this was believed to be a cost cutting move, the leaker mentions in a follow up post that the field of view (FOV) for the selfie shooter has increased to 85 degrees. This makes the FOV a bit wider than the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 80 degrees and the same FOV as the Galaxy S25 Ultra (16% off on Amazon) main 200 MP rear camera.
This would allow the Galaxy S26 Ultra to capture more in a frame while taking a selfie compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It would potentially make group selfies easier, something that Apple has been able to achieve with the iPhone 17 series through Center Stage.
However, the wider FoV is said to come with a larger hole-punch, about 4 mm in diameter, noticeably larger than the predecessors. It was believed that the larger hole-punch is a cost cutting move, but it seems like there will be some benefits as well. As to how it would look visually, commenters are already divided as some seem to prefer a smaller cutout, despite the FoV upgrade.
