The Galaxy S26 series is expected early next year, possibly by end of January, and is expected to bring some minor improvement over the Galaxy S25 series. However, not everything is being upgraded as a new leak hints at the RAM and storage configurations for the trio of phones. It has been previously reported that the memory speeds will be increasing this time around, but that seems to be it.
Known leaker Ice Universe has been consistently sharing information about the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. They recently shared on X the configurations that the three phones will be offered in. Starting with Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Plus, the phones will be available in 12 GB + 256 GB and 12 GB + 512 GB options. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, on the other hand, will be offered in 12 GB + 256 GB, 12 GB + 512 GB, and 12 GB + 1 TB options. These will be the global variants and China will get a 16 GB + 1 TB configuration as well.
Notably, these are the same RAM configurations as the Galaxy S25 series, though there are no 128 GB storage options anymore. Looks like Samsung has decided against upgraded RAM capacity for the Galaxy S26 series. That being said, the same leaker had mentioned last week that LPDDR5X memory running at higher speeds of 10.7 Gbps, compared to 8.5 Gbps on the current generation. This will enable faster processing of night photos, less noise in low-light pictures, better dynamic range in Pro video, as well as some other camera improvements.
Back then, the leaker had also mentioned that RAM configurations will start with 12 GB, suggesting that higher capacity models could be in the lineup as well. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
The leaker adds that Samsung is using this strategy because users in most regions don’t demand higher RAM configurations and are more passive, while users in China are more demanding. That being said, RAM capacity is not the end all be all for performance. Software optimizations, memory management, storage speeds, and several other factors come into play when it comes to overall smartphone performance.
