The Apple iPhone Air performed well in our in-depth review and offers strong performance, an excellent display, and a high-quality as well as ultra-slim design. But at this price point, the tiny battery, single rear camera and USB 2.0 are pretty major caveats. For that reason, iPhone Air sales have reportedly been so poor that production was cut significantly shortly after launch.
Nevertheless, Apple might be planning at least one successor or possibly even two future generations. According to a new report from The Information, Apple has informed engineers and suppliers that the next-generation iPhone Air has been removed from the current schedule, which means that it’s no longer planned to launch alongside the iPhone 18 lineup in September 2026. For now, only the scheduled release date has been canceled, not the iPhone Air 2 itself, as some engineers are reportedly still working on the ultra-thin smartphone.
Apple reportedly made this decision due to extremely low sales numbers. Production of the current iPhone Air at Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn is expected to be halted temporarily by the end of November, following a production stop at Luxshare in late October. Whether production will resume once existing stock is sold off remains unclear, and a new launch date for the iPhone Air 2 is also up in the air.
