Huawei has officially launched the Mate 70 Air following various recent leaks about the new ultra-slim smartphone. A larger rival to the Edge 70, iPhone Air or the Galaxy S25 Edge (curr. $665 on Amazon), the Mate 70 Air is also thicker and heavier at 6.6 mm and 208 grams, respectively. However, Huawei's Air-branded smartphone has a few tricks up its sleeve that the Edge 70, iPhone Air and the Galaxy S25 Edge lack.
For example, Huawei has included a 6,500 mAh silicon carbon battery that supports 66 W wired charging. Unfortunately, the Mate 70 Air misses out on wireless charging that Apple's, Motorola's and Samsung's alternatives master to one degree of another. Moreover, Huawei has included 50 MP primary, 8 MP ultra-wide-angle and 12 MP telephoto cameras, which surpasses the camera setups of other ultra-thin smartphones.
Also, Huawei complements its 1/1.3-inch primary and 3x telephoto cameras with a 10.7 MP front-facing camera. As the photos below show, this front-facing camera sits within a punch hole behind the Mate 70 Air's large display. Measuring 7-inches diagonally, this AMOLED display outputs at 2,760 x 1,320 pixels with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 4,000 nits peak brightness.
Furthermore, the Mate 70 Air is IP68 certified with Beidou satellite support within China. Currently, Huawi has only released the Mate 70 Air within China, where it starts at CNY 4,199 (~$590) with 12 GB of storage, 256 GB of storage and Huawei's Kirin 9020B chipset. Alternatively, Huawei includes the more powerful Kirin 9020A with 16 GB RAM variants. There is no word on international availability yet, though.
