While smartphones such as the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max are already comparatively heavy, weighing in at over 230 grams, the 6 Pound Phone Case goes one weighty step further.
The name of the protective case says it all: at 6 pounds or around 2.7 kilograms, the case weighs more than a 16-inch MacBook Pro. This makes the case anything but practical, which is exactly the point. The heavy weight is intended to make using the smartphone so tedious that users no longer scroll through social networks for hours on end and leave their smartphones at home when going for walks in nature, playing sports or engaging in other leisure activities.
The 6 Pound Phone Case is marketed as a solution for smartphone addiction. Its heavy weight makes prolonged use of the smartphone impractical, its sheer size prevents it from being carried in a pocket, and its construction from two components screwed together prevents the case from being removed in a fit of frustration, as this requires at least a screwdriver.
Price and availability
The 6 Pound Phone Case is currently being funded on Kickstarter. As part of the crowdfunding campaign, what is perhaps the world's heaviest smartphone case costs $210 plus shipping, import sales tax and customs duties. Delivery is expected to begin in January 2026. As this is Matter Neuroscience's first Kickstarter project, there are risks, as is usual with crowdfunding, that the product may be delayed, of inferior quality, or not make it to market at all.
