OnePlus is known for offering smartphones with a good price-performance ratio: Buyers usually get a little bang for their buck from the company.
For many years, however, OnePlus' affordable mid-range offered only one "Lite" model: the Nord CE series, which hasn't had a standard model in a long time, perhaps so as not to come too close to the Nord models.
The return of the popular cell phone model
Now, with the OnePlus Nord CE 5, there is finally a model without any further suffixes, and we've just had the chance to put it through its paces.
Although you only get a plastic chassis, it is very cleanly manufactured and feels very sturdy. An unusual white model with a marble design is also available. The AMOLED display with 120 Hz is also very bright at over 1,300 nits.
The company also promises six years of security updates and four new Android versions, making the smartphone relatively future-proof.
The OnePlus Nord CE 5 has a few weak points
The biggest issue with the affordable OnePlus smartphone is that it uses PWM for brightness control and flickers, especially at very low screen brightness. This can be difficult for sensitive people, so it's best to try out the screen at low brightness in a retail store before buying.
We also measured a significant increase in heat on the case under load, which can be unpleasant, especially in summer.
No Lite model when it comes to internet speed
The cameras prove to be impressive in our review, and we can also give the OnePlus phone credit for its fast charging.
