Immortals of Aveum seemed a promising title when the first gameplay trailer premiered in April 2023. The game appeared to have everything. It was a single-player action-RPG built on UE5 that looked great and seemed to have an impactful story. The key highlight of the game, however, was the first-person shooting combat that relied on magical spells rather than guns.
However, Immortals of Aveum failed to make an impact when it officially launched in August 2023. While mixed reviews were a big reason for the poor financial impact, the game’s asking price of $70 was also a major contributing factor. 2023 was a time when $70 games were still a hot topic in the industry. Studio head Bret Robbins confirmed in a later interview that the game should’ve been priced cheaper.
Fast forward two years, and Immortals of Aveum is currently retailing at its lowest price ever, as the latest EA sale on Steam has reduced the game's price to just $5.99. Down 90% from the listed price, Immortals of Aveum is now a much easier title to recommend and is definitely worth a shot, especially for fans of fast-paced FPS and action-RPGs.
So, what can you expect from Immortals of Aveum? A distinctly linear single-player story experience, rewarding first-person magic shooting, plenty of magic abilities/spells to suit your playstyle, and a great-looking fantasy setting.
IGN describes Immortals of Aveum’s aesthetic as “arcanepunk”, where people wield magic, use it for things like flying machines, but the society still looks medieval. Thanks to UE5, and more than a $100 million budget, Immortals of Aveum pulls off this aesthetic rather well, as the game looks great both during combat and exploration.
Talking about combat, Immortals of Aveum combines FPS gameplay with magic. You shoot bullets out of your fingers, equip different “sigils” for different attacks, and can unlock a host of different spells and abilities as you progress. Per IGN, this combat system works quite well, as it is “both satisfying to master and spectacular to look at”.
Immortals of Aveum system requirements
Immortals of Aveum, like all first-person shooters, should be played in 60 FPS. Thankfully, you can do that with modern mid-range internals. Per Steam, to run the game at 60 FPS at 1440p resolution, you’ll need:
- An Intel Core i7-12700 or an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X CPU
- 16 GB of RAM
- A GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12 GB or a Radeon RX 6800 XT GPU
- 70 GB of storage space
If you are using a gaming PC with internals like the Ryzen 5 9600 and an RX 9070/RTX 5070, you should be able to run Immortals of Aveum at 1440p/60 FPS without any issues.
All in all, Immortals of Aveum is an often-overlooked AAA FPS that deserves more attention than it initially got. It should definitely be on your playlist.
