Splinter Cell is a franchise that has left its mark on millions of gamers around the world. And nearly four years after Ubisoft announced a remake, the studio appears to have various projects in the works.
It was Derek Holstad, showrunner for Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, who revealed this information to IGN when Jim Vejvoda asked him if this anime would be a success:
"I hope so. … Ubisoft’s got a stranglehold on their IP for good measure because they’ve got some of the best titles. But there were some things that along the way they were like, ‘Don't do that.’ And I'm like, ‘Why?’ And they're like, ‘Hey, we got other plans.’ Again, I only get to peer behind part of the curtain for what they're thinking of for the long run. But for what I want to do with the anime and talking in the future of any other spinoff they want to do, it's going like, ‘This fits the mold.”
No information is yet available about these other projects mentioned by Ubisoft, but certain elements from the past suggest that this could be a remake of Splinter Cell. Indeed, during the last Summer Game Fest, a tweet was posted suggesting that this game would be unveiled there.
But that didn't happen, and since then, fans of the franchise have been growing impatient. However, surprises may be in store at the end of this year and the beginning of next year, and it's possible that this long-awaited remake will finally see the light of day in the near future.
