Scammers are again preying on anxious players ahead of the October 10th Battlefield 6 release date. This time, a Reddit ad includes playtest invites to experience the new battle royale mode. However, the phishing links lead to a fake website, where unsuspecting gamers log in with their Steam accounts.
The suspicious ad spotted at the official Battlefield Reddit is just the latest attempt to steal Steam credentials. Before the first open beta in July, an Instagram ad targeted players with fraudulent links. Frustrated fans are blaming the social media platforms for allowing these illegitimate offers.
The free-to-play battle royale mode is the first time gamers will have the option since the Battlefield 5 expansion. 100 competitors will try to systematically eliminate each other, but with elements unique to the Dice shooter game. Battlefield 6 features like destructible physics and a class system will carry over from other modes. A leaked video raised concerns over the role of vehicles and potential microtransactions. Still, players are curious about how the massive firefights will unfold.
Battlefield 6 battle royale is private, for now
Unfortunately, despite the Reddit ad's claims, EA has not announced another Battlefield 6 playtest. The only way to preview the battle royale gameplay is through Battlefield Labs. On September 10th, the publisher announced that testing for the mode would begin shortly.
Even with the Battlefield 6 release date approaching, players can still sign up for these private playtests. Battlefield Labs opened entries in February and has often previewed builds in development. Unlike the open beta periods, players are under an NDA to avoid Battlefield 6 leaks, though that has proven largely unsuccessful.
Scammers will continue to exploit unsuspecting gamers excited about Battlefield 6. These players should take note of any link with a fake domain that asks for Steam account information.
