EA and Ripple Effect (formerly DICE LA) are working on the next Battlefield game that is expected to be released before March 2026. The game is said to bring a free-to-play battle royale mode much like Call of Duty: Warzone and it looks like some details about the game mode have surfaced, thanks to a datamine from the Battlefield Labs playtest. The battle royale mode is said to have an Oversight feature allowing eliminated players to still be part of the battle.
The Labs playtest is a platform for the developers to get feedback from a small group of gamers about the next Battlefield game and its features. A datamine of this playtest seems to have shed more light on the battle royale mode coming to Battlefield 6.A dataminer who goes by temporyal claims on X that the remaster of “Operation Firestorm” in Battlefield 6 will be set in Turkmenistan. It will revolve around the NATO and Pax Armata conflict lore.
Operation Firestorm was the battle royale game mode in Battlefield V. It used a ring of fire to reduce the size of the playable area as the match progressed. The ring of fire is expected to return for Battlefield 6 as well.
Furthermore, temporyal shared a lot more detail on Reddit about the battle royale mode and said that it will include looting weapons, gadgets, and call-ins for tactical advantage. There will be field upgrades that players can get by completing missions. Players who get eliminated shortly after dropping in will get a second chance through a free redeployment.
More interesting is what is being called the Oversight system. When playing battle royale games with teammates, being the only one who’s eliminated on the team gets annoying as players can’t do anything but watch their teammates (unless they are revived). The Oversight system lets eliminated players stay in the action with remote cameras, drones, and turrets. Players still in the match will need to capture an Oversight terminal which will then give eliminated players control of “advanced security systems with lethal potential.” On top of that, eliminated players will have access to security cams regardless.
If this actually makes it to the final game, Battlefield 6 could stand out with its interesting take on battle royales.
