There have been a lot of leaks about the next Battlefield game through the Battlefield Labs playtests and we’ve seen hours of gameplay footage surface online. The streak continues as the latest leak brings updated on the player movement mechanics and the changes being made. It looks like Battlefield is taking a page out of Call of Duty’s book and adding a more omnimovement style system, and of course, fans are divided.
The leak, according to MP1st, originally comes from the BF1 Telegram channel but has been posted on the Battlefield subreddit by user Old_Doubt5886. The sub 1-minute clip shows the player in the shooting range sliding, aiming, and shooting, as well as diving to go prone. As per the footage, players will be able to ADS while sliding but the scope will tilt at a certain angle while sliding and then recenter when stationary.
The movement mechanics feel similar to what Call of Duty calls omnimovement, though the Call of Duty version is a lot more aggressive compared to the Battlefield leak. Omnimovement was a controversial mechanic as it allowed players to dive and cover a lot of distance while still being able to aim down sights and shoot in full 360 degrees. Players had complaints that you should not be able to ADS while bunny hopping and sliding around as it is not realistic.
There is a similar reaction to the Battlefield leak with some fans agreeing with the implementation and others being more sceptical about it. Realistically, ADS should not be stable and accurate while sprinting, sliding, or jumping and that’s what onmimovement allows players to do. Having this mechanic in Battlefield games could be divisive as some players could be frustrated and drop off while some others could take it as another mechanic to master.
However, it should be noted that this new movement system may not make it to the final build of the game. The developers are testing out these mechanics and also gauging public interest, but that doesn’t mean things can’t change as we move close to a release.
