The next instalment in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is not even out yet and we have already started to get info on a future release. A prolific leaker and industry insider has spilled the beans on the direction Activision is wanting to go with the 2027 Call of Duty instalment. It looks like the game will kick off a new series, unrelated to Modern Warfare or the Black Ops franchises.
After the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 instalment which is expected to release late this year, the next game for 2027 will be developed by Sledgehammer Games, that’s according to known leaker and insider TheGhostofHope on X. It will not be another instalment in the Modern Warfare or Black Ops series or even a standalone project, but a “completely new subfranchise” that will be set in the modern era.
The leaker goes on to state that it will have a strong focus on movement though there will not be any jetpacks. It will bring the Get High multiplayer map and there is said to be a focus on martial arts with "karate kicks" and "karate chops.” The Zombies mode could be left out this time, or that’s the plan as of now. There is no information on release just yet.
Commenters are not too happy with this information as they were expecting an Advanced Warfare sequel or a new Call of Duty: Ghosts game. Some are also bummed about the lack of zombies mode.
Regardless, this is all speculation at this point and Activision has not shared any information on a 2026 or a 2027 instalment. Previous leaks have hinted that the 2026 instalment will be Modern Warfare 4. As for what is known, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was officially revealed early in June at Xbox Showcase and a few weeks later, some screenshots had surfaced online showing some of the game modes and equipment that can be expected from the game.
